Revamping, which consists in the overhaul and restructuring of existing systems, contributes to extending the system’s operating life and to exceeding the original design and technological limits, integrating them with current and cutting-edge solutions.
In general, modernising existing systems is becoming less and less expensive, when compared to the installation of a new system, and allows equivalent results. The importance of revamping implies that all new components introduced are high quality and of proven reliability.
Revamping may involve the replacement of components that are technologically outdated with new components based on current and updated technologies, the integration of missing equipment components, disassembly, adjustments and replacements of existing system components.
The benefits expected from Revamping range from higher performances as a result of newly introduced technologies, optimisation and monitoring of energy consumption, greater production flexibility, to ensuring efficiency and quality, and lower management and maintenance costs.

The retrofitting of an equipment or system consists in accessorising an existing part that is out of production with additional devices designed to allow its use with extended, increased and/or improved performance, or to adapt the system to newly introduced technical standards.
This condition can occur in cases where the replacement from scratch of the outdated item proves impossible or involves lengthy stops, involving other equipment and/or facilities that are also outdated and for which spare parts are no longer available and that would therefore require a partial or total re-installation. As such, retrofitting, where possible, is a task that should generally be scheduled after a feasibility study, analysis of equipment and system problems, study of the original features and search for an appropriate solution to upgrade the system’s overall performance.
Retrofitting alone, in some cases, may be enough to prolong the life of the system without the need for further tasks or additional costs, so as to allow production continuity, when it is not possible to modernise the system altogether right away.
